Amenities
Viking provides guests with a number of spectacular amenities. On a Viking River Cruise, you can expect:
- Exceptional accommodations
- Attentive service
- Complimentary wine, beer, and soft drinks
- Complimentary Internet service
- In-room infotainment system
Most Viking ships will even have a library full of reading material, games, and puzzles which may be borrowed at no charge.
Onboard entertainment options are available on Viking River Cruises, but may be limited when compared to Ocean Cruises.
Some ships will offer a fitness area, but not all do, so if this is an important feature for you, it might be worth doing some extra research before booking a cruise on a particular ship.
In your room, you’ll also have access to a private safe where you may store any valuable jewelry, cash, or small electronic devices.
Many of the staterooms aboard a Viking ship will even include a flat-screen TV with access to CNN, BBC, and other English-language programming (if satellite transmission is available).
With Viking you’ll even have the option of a premium entertainment package (for a few ships), which includes access to CNBC, National Geographic, and movie channels.
There are also itinerary-specific films that are usually available for your enjoyment.
Suite Exclusive Amenities
One of the biggest upgrades you’ll receive when booking a Viking suite is space.
Though the extra elbow room is often reason enough to upgrade, each suite provides guests with exclusive amenities designed to maximize their cruising experience.
Each suite offers an additional flat-panel TV, one in the sitting area and one in the bedroom, allowing guests to enjoy two separate programs at once, if needed.
All suites also include modern updates that guests are sure to appreciate.
Select suites may also feature heated flooring in the bathroom, as well as a heated mirror that won’t fog up after a lengthy shower.

Itineraries
Overall, Viking River Cruises has 30+ different itineraries lasting anywhere from 1 week to 3 weeks and they are all designed to give passengers a maximized sightseeing experience.
A number of these itineraries are for the European River Cruises. In addition to the European waterways, Viking also provides a decent list of Asia Itineraries for you to choose from.
If you’re interested in visiting Russia, Viking provides a few itinerary choices for there too.
With Viking you can even choose the Egypt Itinerary and explore the “Pathways of Pharaohs.” Viking has future plans to expand its destination choices, being the first European River Cruise company to enter the cruise market in America, eventually offering a Mississippi River itinerary.
Most onshore excursions that go along with the different itineraries seem to be a huge success for Viking passengers, especially when they divide into groups of walkers and non-walkers.
There have been a few complaints about wanting more time for the onshore excursions, however, so when partaking in one, make your plans according to the time constraints (if there are any).
As you might expect, there have also been a few complains about some of the local guides that have been hired by Viking, but since the guides are not Viking employees, it is impossible to tell if this is something you would have to worry about.
It is quite likely that Viking continually hire new guides, so there is a chance you can avoid the experience of having one of the unpleasant ones hired in the past.
Service
Viking staff go above and beyond to provide you with service that is sure to make you smile; their combined expertise ensure that they’ll find a way to meet your every need so that your vacation can be as rewarding as possible.
The English-speaking staff aboard each Viking vessel is trained to the highest standards; Viking River Cruises are the only river cruise company confident enough in their staff to guarantee their award-winning service.
All of the Program Directors employed by Viking have an intimately familiar knowledge of the different destinations and will be available to help you discover and explore each location.
As with anywhere you go, some staff is likely to be more helpful and friendlier than others, though as a whole, most reviews praise the efforts of the Viking staff.
Likewise, there have been minor complaints about the dining staff, but that’s also something you would expect to find anywhere you go.
